Prohibition was a nationwide ban on the sale and import of alcoholic beverages that lasted from 1920 to 1933. This led to an immediate and drastic increase in organized crimes, specifically “bootlegging.” Bootleggers supplied establishments commonly referred to as “Blind Pigs”, “Gin Joints” and “Speakeasies” with illegal alcohol. These illegal establishments ranged from fancy clubs to dingy backrooms, basements or rooms within apartments.

Some Prohibition-Era speakeasies required a secret password for entry– others issued membership cards to identify “trustworthy” patrons, or charged membership dues to secure their “seat” and access to alcohol.

Keeping with the traditions of speakeasies, The Hive is intended to maintain a “veil” of secrecy and limits access to “known” patrons. For this reason, pictures are not allowed while inside; violation may result in loss of future access. Trusted Members have been approved for Membership by the Owners. Members are “entrusted” to only bring guests that agree to the rules and “secrecy” of The Hive. Before entry, memberships are checked and a secret access code is provided.

Hive access must be made via phone or online reservation and are for set time periods, to ensure opportunities for all members to enjoy. If there are vacant seats, members may request access without reservation or to enter for a purchase.

The Hive is proud to serve award-winning spirits made by “Bootlegger” Karel Kon, AKA “Willy Wonka of Spirits”- owner of Royal Hawaiian Spirits Distillery (RHS) in Chinatown. Karel has fused the knowledge he brought with him from Czechoslovakia, his years of experience and personal talent to create unique spirits that are sure to surprise you! (Please note: The Hive does not serve wine, but patrons are permitted to purchase bottles from the winery to consume.)

The Hive will make an ongoing to effort to keep things exciting; Smoked cocktails, exclusive menu, eclectic music selection, “stinger shots”, herbal hookah and unique drinks such as the “Bob Marley” cocktail are some of the things that will be available to Valued Members!
